About the Art
This piece was carved from a 130,000 year-old piece of wood from Vancouver Island, BC. The burl in the cedar is especially hard to carve, and carving into the burl knot located over the nose created concentric ripple-like effects across the eyes and face. Ancestor’s Moon is an eagle moon mask, that also features a secondary wolf portrait along the outer rim. The embedded, iridescent abalone eyes are associated with ancestors and the ability to move between worlds.
