About the Artist
Adina Farinango is a Kichwa Artist using art as an act of resistance, healing, and self expression. Her illustrations are a way to navigate and strengthen her own identity as an urban Indigenous part of the Kichwa diaspora. Her work is heavily influenced by the resilience and strength of matriarchs in her community - past, present, and future. Through this practice she seeks to Indigenize digital spaces as a way to reclaim her narrative as an Indigenous woman. She is currently based in Lenape Territory (The Bronx, New York).

Creating art has been a way to tap into that knowledge that lives inside me. It’s where I really feel like I enter into conversation with our ancestors who aren't physically with us anymore. It’s embodied/rooted, in us, our stories, memories, and experiences. No matter where I am, I know that the roots of knowledge are present and that my ancestors hold me. This knowledge is in me, this connection traverses bodies, galaxies, borders and these roots keep growing, even in the concrete jungle where I find myself.
