About the Art
I started painting in high school, and took some painting classes when I went to Skagit Valley College. Now I work in Communications for my tribe, which I find is still creative in different ways. Where my parents live on the Swinomish Reservation, their house is high enough up that you can see Mt.Baker over the water. That image always grounds me in where I am and my connection to where I come from. I’ve always been interested in the moon. In Swinomish culture, we have 13 moons that tell us when to gather resources from the water and land. I remember my dad used to wake me up at 5:00 a.m. to watch the moon rise or the sunrise, and those experiences have always influenced me and my work.
