About the Art

I have always preferred sketching people, nature and animals. But because I have been thrown into art classes for most of my life, I have dabbled in other mediums. I often find those that are most challenging to be the most rewarding, such as the ones I've submitted, incorporating charcoal, clay, pen & ink.

About the Artist
Keri, a multi-ethnic Indigenous mother and new grandmother, has been creating art since before she could walk, according to her family's accounts. You could find her in her little yellow room in her house where she grew up in the heart of NE Portland sketching on her easel on most days. Keri's mother (Hausa, Chahta & Osage) always encouraged and supported her daughter's talents. So, a lot of Keri's work, past & present, has been a tribute to her mother, who became an ancestor in 2020. There have been many moments in her life where she has taken breaks from her art because life got in the way, but she has always returned to it after a hiatus or 3. After all, she believes that art gives life more meaning and life gives art meaning too.
