About the Art
In the yəhaw̓ story, the Coast Salish people from all tribes united around a common cause and lifted up the sky together when Creator made the sky too low. As the sky was being lifted, some hunters were chasing some elk. These hunters were not helping to lift the sky. So the elk jumped into the Sky World and the hunters followed. The sky was lifted, but the elk and hunters got stuck in the Sky World. They became the Big Dipper.
