About the Art

As an Inupiat Native American/Nordic city-dwelling person, I seek ways to make sense of my diverse cultural heritage through my artwork.

My work often features Northern animals which may be found in both Scandinavia and Alaska, a way of bringing my two different cultures together.

Borrowing from my ancestral roots, I seek to learn more about the DNA in my veins and express my journey to viewers.

During the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown I have been learning to create art digitally. I have also been creating a family tree and doing genealogical research to learn more about my ancestors. Some of these artworks combine ancestry documents like census or church records with digital art. One of our cherished Native values is knowledge of family tree.

About the Artist
My winding path in the arts has included a few highlights including a grant in 2018 to study the collections of the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Collection and the collections of the Anchorage Museum. Holding the artwork of my Inupiaq people increased my connections to my tribe as each carving, mask, and artifact spoke to me in different ways. I’m proud to have recently had a temporary public art installation in Seattle, a work in the Public Works Collection in Seattle, and a solo exhibition at Seattle’s National Nordic Museum. I’ve also been equally proud to show my work at Alaska Native Arts Foundation, Seattle’s Ethnic Heritage Art Gallery, Grand Central Terminal NYC, and more. I’ve recently been learning Native American woodcarving from Master Carver Steven Madison (Tulalip). I am an emerging public artist. I'm descended from Iñupiaq and Scandinavian hunters, fisherman, ship builders and even a shaman. I was born in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle and grew up bouncing back and forth between Anchorage, Alaska and the greater Seattle area. I have an Associate’s in Fine Arts Degree.
