About the Project

Seattle Art Museum presents an annual artist residency that activates the Olympic Sculpture Park throughout the winter and helps grow the artistic practice of contemporary Pacific Northwest artists. SAM partnered with yəhaw̓ on the artist selection process for their 2019 residency.

In 2019, multi-disciplinary Chugach Alutiiq artist Christine Babic took residence to research, workshop, and realize an immersive project exploring the gap between contemporary and traditional Indigenous works. Babic combined performance and installation to create a site-specific experience with collaborating artists Mary Babic (Chugach Alutiiq) and Alex Britt (Nansemond / White).
