Position Summary
yəhaw̓ Indigenous Creatives Collective is searching for a Community Engagement Lead to facilitate access to our community spaces in Rainier Beach, and represent our organization during our programs and at partner events. This person will manage our rental program, tabling and tour programs, on-site open hours, and online artist database. They will communicate with community virtually and in person, while building relationships with individuals and organizations in a culturally informed way. They will work with our team to facilitate activities and help coordinate logistics for all programs. The ideal candidate is an organized and empathetic people-person, who can help yəhaw̓’s spaces feel like home for Indigenous community members as well as a wide cross section of participants. Candidates who have lived experience directly related to our mission of uplifting Indigenous artists are especially encouraged to apply. The Community Engagement Lead will work closely with the Director, as well as fellow staff and the Board. We are a small and nimble team that values collaboration, adaptability, and a willingness to pull together on projects large and small. The Community Engagement Lead will:
Help set up furniture and prepare supplies for both yəhaw̓ and partner programs, and ensure events run smoothly, including helping to clean up
Coordinate with BIPOC groups wishing to rent our space for free, including managing a rental form, giving walkthroughs at the site, implementing security and safety protocols, and stocking the house with food and all needed supplies
Serve as an ambassador for the organization through tabling at events, giving public presentations about our work, and attending convenings with partners and community organizations
Lead tours and art activities on the land yəhaw̓ stewards for visiting groups like schools, volunteers, and others interested in our programs
Manage outreach and artist engagement for the Indigenous Creatives Roster, including the application form and quarterly data uploads to the online roster platform
Collect and help analyze event attendance data and feedback so we know who we are serving and if we are meeting community goals
Organize activities for our weekly Friday open hours and tend the garden with our team
Initiate a new artist co-working program in our arts center spaces
Other scope ideas are welcome based on an employee’s personal interests and goals

Strong communication skills
Friendly and outgoing attitude
Ability to stay organized and manage responsibilities with autonomy, while balancing competing priorities
Lived experience or demonstrated professional skills working with Indigenous communities, including urban Native people
Given the nature of this position, strong candidates will live in proximity to South Seattle, be enthusiastically willing to commute regularly, or consider moving to the area
Compensation and Benefits
This position is currently scoped for 20 hours a week, with a salary of $52,000 a year. For all employees averaging 20 hours a week or more, we provide full medical/dental benefits, paid time off, work from home stipends, retirement programs, sick leave, technology access, and professional development opportunities. The weekly work schedule will be designed based on the selected applicant’s availability and the organization’s needs, with regular in-person meetings and weekend events in Seattle. yəhaw̓ values working with individuals that reflect our served community, and will make accommodations whenever possible for artist residencies, parental caregiving duties, or other special time off requests as needed.
In alignment with Indigenous Creatives Collective mission of enhancing wellbeing in our community, we use a non-hierarchical payment structure where all administrative contractors and staff start at the same hourly rate. In 2026, this rate is set at $50 an hour. Compensation rates, as well as regular Cost of Living Adjustments for long term staff, will be assessed by the Board annually. Staff are also entitled to reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred in connection with organizational business, including lodging costs and mileage when traveling away from the office is required for work. Per IRS guidelines, we cannot pay for staff time or mileage for regular commutes to and from the office.
